UPDATE:

Tornado Sirens Are Operational Again! We’re happy to report that all 7 of our tornado sirens are back online! A big thank you to Harmonic Electronics for finding a temporary fix of the three that were not working while we wait for the new parts to arrive. Our sirens were working just fine until a recent county upgrade caused an unforeseen issue that disrupted communication between our system and dispatch. Thanks to Harmonic’s quick work, we’ve got a solution in place to keep everyone safe in the meantime.
Important Reminder: Tornado sirens are designed to alert people who are outdoors—they are not meant to wake you up during severe weather. Make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, like mobile apps, NOAA weather radios, or local news alerts. Thanks for your patience and stay safe!

ORIGINAL POSTING:

During a recent upgrade to the county’s tornado siren communication system, it was discovered that our current radios are outdated and no longer compatible. Because of this, three of our city’s tornado sirens are temporarily out of service until replacement radios arrive.

This was an unforeseen issue, and we’re actively working on a solution — but at this time, we don’t have an exact timeline for when the sirens will be back online.

Important Reminder:
Tornado sirens are meant to warn people who are outdoors, not those inside homes or buildings. Please make sure you have multiple ways to receive severe weather alerts, such as NOAA weather radios, emergency text alerts, or weather apps. The list of free apps you are able to download to your mobile device include 14FirstAlert Weather, Tristate on the Go, Storm Team 44 WEVV Weather, and Weather – The Weather Channel

With chances of severe weather expected this weekend, now is the time to prepare.

Double-check your weather alert systems, review your safety plans with your family, and make sure you have access to shelter if needed.

Your safety is our priority. We’ll keep you updated as we know more. Stay weather aware and be ready!
