By a very wide margin, Mother Nature is the main cause of outages in the City of Huntingburg's service territory.

Several types of weather can cause widespread problems, including lightning, high winds, tornadoes, rain, snow, ice and extreme heat.

Tree growth and small animals such as squirrels and raccoons can cause an outage if they come in contact with certain parts of our delivery system. To help limit these problems, we trim trees away from our distribution lines and install animal guards on pole-top transformers.

Equipment failures can cause outages in limited areas. Transformers and other equipment may, in rare cases, fail during normal operation. An overload may also cause the equipment to fail.
