The objective of this organization shall be to protect the lives and property of the people of Huntingburg/Patoka Township and surrounding community, by the utilization of a comprehensive fire education and prevention program. Then, by providing a group of well trained, well equipped, able, and willing persons who shall respond in case of fire, medical emergency, natural disaster, or other emergency.

The Huntingburg Volunteer Fire Department met for their annual Christmas party on Dec. 5, 2012.  Years of Service Awards were handed out to members of the fire department by Chief Scott Patberg. 

Firemen receiving service awards were:
 - 5 years - Tim Sternberg
 - 15 years - Aaron Bell, Jeff Hanebutt and Donnie Heim.

Pictured are firemen who received a golden ax for their years of service.

The seven men receiving axes combined for a total 258 years of service to the city of Huntingburg:

Glen Kissling (31 years), Ray Kissling (41 years), Larry Patberg (36 years), Chief Scott Patberg, Bill Moesner (44 years), Bill Bland (42 years), Jim Leibering (31 years). Not pictured but also receiving an ax, Gary Beadles (33 years).
